This workshop explores the ways that two key concepts, white supremacy culture and the white savior complex, show up in the legal system. Here are a few of the questions guiding questions we explore in this workshop:

  • What are white supremacy culture and the savior complex and how do we understand the ways they are embedded into the legal system?

  • How do we strengthen our ability to recognize ways that power and privilege play out in our work through white supremacy culture and the savior complex?

  • What frameworks, tools, and interventions can support us to move towards solidarity without compromising the urgency with which we need to fight unconstitutional laws, protect vulnerable communities, and pursue freedom, justice and equal opportunities for all?

This workshop will introduce these concepts, apply them to examples in large and small groups, and support participants to walk away with resources and new commitments.
